CraniumFrontal Bone- Is found in the forehead region. The frontal bone plays vital role by supporting and protecting the delicate nervous tissue of the brain. It gives shape to the skull and supports several muscles of the head. Parietal Bone (2)- They are located on each side of the skull just behind the frontal bone. The parietal bones function is also to protect the brain and support of the face. Temporal Bone (2)- The temporal bone is one of two bones that form parts of the sides and base of the cranium. A temporal bone on each side of the skull joins the parietal bone along the squamosal suture. The temporal bone houses the internal structure of the ear and have depressions, the mandibular fossae, which joins the processes of the mandible. Occipital Bone- The occipital bone joins the parietal bones along the lambdoidal structure. It forms the back of the skull and the base of the cranium. Sphenoid Bone- It consist of a central part and two-wing like structure that extend sideways towards each side of the skull. Ethmoid Bone- A square or cubical-shaped bone located at the top of the nose and between the two eye sockets (orbits). The main function of the ethmoid bone are the protection of vital organs in the region, and support of the nose and orbits. |
SpineThe cervical nerves are the upper part of the spine. There are seven vertebrae . These allow for neck movement.
The thoracic nerves are the 12 vertebrae located in the mid back where the ribs are attached to. The lumbar nerves are the vertebrae in the lower back and absorb the stress of lifting and carrying heavy objects. The sacral nerves are provides motor and sensory nerves for the posterior thigh, most of the lower leg and foot, and part of the pelvis. It is part of the lumbosacral plexus and emerges from the lumbar vertebrae and sacral vertebrae. |
